20.7 6.01 PM 18.01 – 21.7 12.00 AM 00.00
Special Weather Statement issued July 20 at 1:01PM CDT by NWS Duluth MN Dry conditions and very strong west winds will cause near critical fire weather conditions today. West winds of 10 to 20 mph with gusts of 30 to 35 mph are forecast for the entire day Minimum relative humidity values of 40 to 50 percent are also expected, possibly drier in northern Saint Louis and Koochiching county where overnight showers and storms only brought a few hundredths of an inch of rain. Higher rainfall amounts did fall in northern Cook and Lake Counties on the order of a quarter to half inch, but skies will partially clear out quickly today leading to drying conditions. Together, these conditions may cause wildfires to spread rapidly. Check burning restrictions and fire danger before burning. Similar conditions are anticipated on Tuesday with winds out of the north-northwest gusting to 20 to 30 mph, and while relative humidity values will be highers, these stronger winds may still cause any fires to spread rapidly. For more information on burning restrictions for Minnesota, see www.dnr.state.mn.us/forestry/fire/firerating_restrictions.html.
