In New York, Dutchess, Eastern Greene, Eastern Ulster, and Western Columbia Counties. * WHEN...From 11 AM this morning to 7 PM EDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Special Weather Statement issued July 4 at 5:32PM EDT by NWS Albany NY At 532 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Kent, or 10 miles north of Sherman, moving east at 25 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and penny size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... New Milford, Thomaston, Kent, Litchfield, Northwest Harwinton, Oakville, New Preston, Terryville, Woodbury Center, Wingdale, Dover Plains, Gaylordsville, Watertown, Plymouth, Woodbury, Harwinton, Bethlehem, Washington, Morris, and Roxbury. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 1100 PM EDT for northern Connecticut...and east central New York.
