Rip Current Statement issued June 12 at 3:10AM EDT until June 14 at 5:00AM EDT by NWS Tallahassee FL * WHAT...Dangerous rip currents expected. * WHERE...Walton and Bay County Beaches. * WHEN...From noon CDT today through late Thursday night. * IMPACTS...Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Early this morning, the buoy located 88 miles south-southeast of Apalachicola offshore buoy was observing 4-foot waves with a dominant period of 8 seconds, and a mean wave direction from the south-southeast. Some portion of this wave energy will move up to the Emerald Coast this afternoon around the same time that the seabreeze kicks in, so a high risk of rip currents is likely to develop. Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
