Marine Weather Statement issued June 14 at 6:56PM EDT by NWS Jacksonville FL The areas affected include... Coastal waters from Altamaha Sound to Fernandina Beach FL out 20 NM... At 656 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated strong thunderstorms, capable of producing winds to around 30 knots. These thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 22 nm west of St. Simons Island to 24 nm northwest of Amelia City, moving east at 35 knots. These strong thunderstorms will likely produce winds in excess of 34 knots, and is likely to pose a serious hazard for boaters. A special marine warning will likely be required when these strong thunderstorms reach the nearshore waters. Boaters should consider heading for shore before these strong thunderstorms arrive. Waterspouts are possible with this activity. If a waterspout occurs, move your boat away from it. Waterspouts can develop rapidly and produce winds and seas that are dangerous for vessels and everyone onboard.
