Special Weather Statement issued July 5 at 5:02PM EDT by NWS Jackson KY At 502 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms over Fishpond Lake, or 7 miles east of Whitesburg. These storms were nearly stationary. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Whitesburg, Jenkins, Fleming-Neon, Winters, Horn, Oscaloosa, Van, Colly, Premium, Cromona, Trailer, Payne Gap, Sergent, Lewis Creek, Ermine, Lowndes, Maggard, Adamson, Neon Junction, and Whitco. THIS INCLUDES U.S. Highway 23 in Lethcher County between mile markers 1 and 5. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
