Special Weather Statement issued July 5 at 4:15PM CDT by NWS New Orleans LA At 415 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over White Castle, or 9 miles west of Donaldsonville, moving south at 30 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 to 50 mph and half inch hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... Baton Rouge, Plaquemine, Oak Hills Place, St. Gabriel, Addis, White Castle, Prairieville, Village St. George, Geismar, Bayou Sorrel, Gardere, and Carville. This includes Interstate 10 in Louisiana between mile markers 165 and 176. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. If on or near marine areas, get out of the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued July 5 at 4:16PM CDT until July 5 at 4:30PM CDT by NWS New Orleans LA At 416 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over St. Gabriel, or near Plaquemine, moving southeast at 15 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and nickel size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Locations impacted include... Plaquemine, Oak Hills Place, St. Gabriel, Gardere, and Village St. George. If on or near areas of water, get away and move to safe shelter immediately. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Severe thunderstorms can produce large capsizing waves, even on small bodies of water. Move into dock and seek safe shelter now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
