Flood Watch issued July 13 at 6:00AM EDT until July 13 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Blacksburg VA * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of North Carolina, including the following areas, Alleghany NC, Ashe, Caswell, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry, Watauga, Wilkes and Yadkin, Virginia, including the following areas, Appomattox, Bedford, Bland, Campbell, Carroll, Charlotte, Floyd, Franklin, Giles, Grayson, Halifax, Henry, Montgomery, Patrick, Pittsylvania, Pulaski, Roanoke, Smyth, Tazewell and Wythe, and southeast West Virginia, including the following area, Mercer. * WHEN...Through this evening. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Slow moving showers and embedded thunderstorms with high rainfall rates will be possible today. Flood Advisory issued July 13 at 9:43AM EDT until July 13 at 12:00PM EDT by NWS Blacksburg VA * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues. * WHERE...Portions of North Carolina, including the following counties, Alleghany NC, Surry, Wilkes and Yadkin and southwest Virginia, including the following county, Grayson. * WHEN...Until noon EDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways. River or stream flows are elevated. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 943 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain. Minor flooding is already occurring in the advisory area. Between 1 and 8 inches of rain have fallen. - This includes the following streams and drainages... Big Warrior Creek, Beaver Creek, Beaverdam Creek, Big Bugaboo Creek, Big Sandy Creek, Bee Tree Branch, Brush Creek, Arnold Branch, Bussels Creek and Big Pine Creek. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... North Wilkesboro... Elkin... Wilkesboro... Jonesville... Ronda... Traphill... Mountain Park... - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
