Flood Watch issued July 13 at 1:46PM EDT until July 13 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Blacksburg VA * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of North Carolina, including the following areas, Alleghany NC, Ashe, Stokes, Surry, Watauga, Wilkes and Yadkin, southwest Virginia, including the following areas, Bland, Carroll, Floyd, Giles, Grayson, Montgomery, Patrick, Pulaski, Smyth, Tazewell and Wythe, and southeast West Virginia, including the following area, Mercer. * WHEN...Until 8 PM EDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Slow-moving showers with efficient rainfall rates will continue through this evening. Flood Advisory issued July 13 at 2:59PM EDT until July 13 at 6:00PM EDT by NWS Blacksburg VA * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues. * WHERE...Portions of North Carolina, including the following counties, Alleghany NC, Surry, Wilkes and Yadkin and southwest Virginia, including the following county, Grayson. * WHEN...Until 600 PM EDT. * IMPACTS...Dangerous flows over low-water crossings. Some low-water crossings may become impassable. River or stream flows are elevated. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 258 PM EDT, local law enforcement reported a bridge had been washed out near Dobson. Minor flooding is already occurring. Between 4 and 10 inches of rain have fallen. - This includes the following streams and drainages... Arnold Branch, Big Warrior Creek, Beaverdam Creek, Brush Creek, Big Pine Creek, Big Bugaboo Creek, Big Sandy Creek, Bussels Creek, Bee Tree Branch and Beaver Creek. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... North Wilkesboro... Elkin... Wilkesboro... Jonesville... Ronda... Traphill... Mountain Park... - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
