Flood Watch issued July 11 at 12:44AM EDT until July 12 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Morristown TN * WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of southwest North Carolina, including the following areas, Cherokee and Clay, East Tennessee, including the following areas, Anderson, Bledsoe, Blount Smoky Mountains, Bradley, Campbell, Claiborne, Cocke Smoky Mountains, East Polk, Grainger, Hamblen, Hamilton, Hancock, Hawkins, Jefferson, Johnson, Knox, Loudon, Marion, McMinn, Meigs, Morgan, North Sevier, Northwest Blount, Northwest Carter, Northwest Cocke, Northwest Greene, Northwest Monroe, Rhea, Roane, Scott TN, Sequatchie, Sevier Smoky Mountains, Southeast Carter, Southeast Greene, Southeast Monroe, Sullivan, Unicoi, Union, Washington TN and West Polk, and southwest Virginia, including the following areas, Lee, Russell, Scott VA, Washington VA and Wise. * WHEN...Through Sunday evening. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Periods of showers and thunderstorms are expected today through Sunday. Locations that receive multiple rounds of locally heavy rainfall could experience instances of flash flooding. East Central Hamblen County in east Tennessee... South Central Hawkins County in east Tennessee... Southwestern Unicoi County in east Tennessee... Southwestern Washington County in east Tennessee... * WHEN...Until 145 PM EDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1125 AM EDT, Emergency management reported many creeks and ditches are still full or overflowing in various parts of the county, with standing water still noted on several roads as well. As such, we have extended the flood advisory. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Greeneville, Tusculum, Mosheim, Bulls Gap, Camp Creek, Chucky, Davy Crockett Birthplace, Limestone, Romeo and Rocky Fork. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route. Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or creeks.
