Extreme Heat Warning issued July 1 at 2:24PM EDT until July 3 at 7:00PM EDT by NWS Burlington VT * WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 105. * WHERE...The Champlain Valley of New York and Vermont, as well as eastern Windsor County in Vermont. * WHEN...Until 7 PM EDT Friday. * IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The highest heat index values will occur between 1 PM and 5 PM daily through Friday. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued July 1 at 10:33PM EDT until July 1 at 11:00PM EDT by NWS Burlington VT At 1030 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Cumberland Head, moving east at 45 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Minor hail damage to vehicles is possible. Expect wind damage to trees and powerlines. Locations impacted include... Essex Junction, Mooers Village, Burlington International Airport, Dannemora, Rouses Point, Champlain Village, Plattsburgh International Airport, South Burlington, Burlington, Keeseville, Enosburg Falls, Franklin, Champlain, Westford, Colchester, Essex Junction Village, Sheldon, Georgia, Grand Isle, and St. Albans Town. This includes the following highways... Interstate 87 between mile markers 134 and 175. Interstate 89 between mile markers 80 and 129. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Boaters on Lake Champlain should seek safe harbor now! Strong winds will cause higher waves and sudden wind shifts may overturn boats. If on or near Lake Champlain, get away from the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 15 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.
